UN ÉTÉ FRANÇAIS
While rereading Françoise Sagan’s book “La Chamade” to the sound of Nico and The Velvet Underground, Hedi Slimane designed Un Été Français in May 2024.
The heroine of Un Été Français wears a black silk jersey headband with a short fringe and a long or short bob, a sharp streak of eyeliner traces the memory and melancholy of a youthful françoise hardy, recently departed, to whom Hedi pays tribute here.
The return of the pleated boarding school skirt suit, tailored in light summer cashmere or hand-embroidered, with short summer coats in suede or glazed lambskin, embroidered twinsets adorned with sequins, worn over suspended pencil skirts or mini A-line skirts.
In 2003, Hedi Slimane documented the London and Paris youth scene, from Saint-Germain to South Kensington, where uptown indie Lolitas wearing babydoll dresses stormed the English concert scene.
The suspended silk dresses in Un Été Français are handcrafted and embroidered with two-tone feathers, sequins, and giant rhodoid flowers lacquered with crystals from CELINE’s ateliers. The summer dresses in broderie anglaise and in the spirit of Jane B. are entirely hand-crocheted and embroidered with crystals and silver sequins. The long, architectural evening dresses are cut and draped in black silk faille.
CELINE necklaces are layered on like beach accessories on sleeveless T-shirts embroidered with translucent sequins.
CELINE’s graphic slingbacks are made of exotic lacquered leathers: lizard, python, and crocodile.
The Teen Bag Joséphine is made in the CELINE ateliers. Extended with a curved handle, it can be carried by hand or worn on the shoulder and will be available in polished or lacquered shades of crocodile or ruby, emerald, and amber lizard.

The newest creation in the Haute Parfumerie line created by Hedi Slimane, “Un Été Français“, is worn by the models in the eponymous film.
“‘Un Été Français’ came to life at my beach house in Ramatuelle with its perfumed garden facing the sparkling Mediterranean, bathing in summer languor, listening to Nico, Birkin, Hardy.
It’s the memory of Greco, whom I loved, met, and photographed in Saint-Germain ten years ago, and who lived just a stone’s throw from me in her house in L’Escalet.
I recall these youthful images of Greco and Annabelle Buffet with their natural French elegance, having fun in the alleys of the old village.
‘Un Été Français’ is a nostalgic tribute to the last six summers spent in Saint-Tropez, but also to teenage memories of the beaches of the Côte d’Azur, with first loves, gold and sunburnt skin beneath a veil of ambered cream.”
