As this particular CELINE cardigan has been seen on so many k-pop and k-drama stars, it wouldn’t be too much if one stated that the French fashion brand has buried its claw deep within the South Korean entertainment industry.
The specific item is a loose embroidered wool and alpaca wool cardigan, featuring blue, red stripes, mother-of-pearl buttons, covered with silver pearls, and stars embroideries – called the Americana cardigan – debuted at CELINE’s The Dancing Kid collection (Spring 2021 menswear collection, July 2020).
Later, seen worn for the first time by BLACKPINK’s Lisa in the group’s “Lovesick Girls” music video – October 2020 – even before the collection is launched globally. Most probably, an exclusive right reserved to Lisa as CELINE’s first global brand ambassador – and the first k-pop star ever to hold the title.
Fast forwards several months later, the same cardigan later could be seen worn by male k-pop stars, from NCT, Shinee, 2 PM, Winner, DAY6, and just recently spotted worn by rising star actor Kim Seon Ho (from the highly popular k-drama “Start-Up”) for his feature in Elle Singapore. And BLACKPINK’s Lisa was the only female star to ever wear it to this day (this menswear rule doesn’t apply to her).
In short, the cardigan has been making quite a momentum amongst the Korean stars, from music to televisions, and seriously hasn’t shown any sign of slowing down. A strong evident of CELINE’s appeal to the global entertainment industry – in general. This goes in hand with LVMH’s report which stated that CELINE was one of the luxury group’s brands that showed good improvement in its activity by the third quarter of 2020.
Let’s see, which CELINE’s item will next become hugely popular within the Korean entertainment sphere? or, which CELINE’s menswear piece that will become a hit after Lisa from BLACKPINK wears them for the first time. Interested to explore the latest collections from CELINE? Click the link below.
