CHANEL will present its 2022/23 Métiers d’art collection on Thursday, June 1st, 2023 in Tokyo, Japan.
First unveiled on December 6th at the former Palais de Justice in Dakar, Senegal, the collection celebrates the spirit of the 1970s with silhouettes in vibrating colours and richly ornate embroideries of beads and sequins, flared trouser suits in textured tweeds and flowing dresses with floral motifs.
The show was the result of multiple encounters over the past three years between Virginie Viard and the arts scene of the Senegalese capital, in disciplines dear to the House such as dance, music, literature and cinema. It is also part of an extensive cultural programme and the starting point for an ongoing exchange between the House and Senegal.
Since 2002, every December the Métiers d’art collection has been paying tribute to the virtuosity of the artisans who collaborate with CHANEL and other great names in luxury, while demonstrating the House’s commitment to promoting this exceptional heritage around the world.
After showing the two first Métiers d’art collections in Paris, it was in 2004 that CHANEL presented its Métiers d’art collection outside the French capital for the first time, choosing Tokyo as the destination for its 2004/05 Métiers d’art show. Since then, all Métiers d’art collections have travelled to cities or places that inspire the House.
With this new show, CHANEL reaffirms the strength of its close ties with Japan.
