“The synchronicity of movement and form. This collection began with the essence of sport: power and grace, precision and freedom.” – Tory Burch

SILHOUETTES: Elements of sport are twisted and reinterpreted, drawing on the feeling of freedom and escape. Swimsuits are densely embroidered with sequins; belts and ties mirror the gesture of martial arts jackets; color-blocked sweaters evoke jerseys. Seaming and quilting follow the lines of the body, and skirts have wire through the waist to bend around curves. Tory Burch continued to explore sensuality and draping with cascading chiffon skirts, styled with cotton V-necks.

FABRICS & EMBELLISHMENTS: Materials alternate between sporty, sumptuous and strange: quilted cotton, waffle knits, and stretch wool gauze next to hand-twisted sequins, crystal beading and featherweight suede. An abstract jacquard evokes swimmers and waves, while a classic-looking toile de jouy reveals aliens hidden among the flora and fauna.

HANDBAGS: The Pierced collection evolves with an oval handbag in soft, unlined leather with a single oversized ring. Another shoulder bag, the Balloon, comes in distorted T Monogram and glossy textures. For evening, Tory Burch cast the signature Eleanor box bag in metal and developed a pouch in velvet and flocked sequins with floor-sweeping silk fringe.

SHOES: Nearly every shoe started with the construction of a ballet slipper, including the Twisted pump and the Reva ballet. Originally launched in 2006, modern updates to the Reva include cut-outs, a beveled coin, and a new mule silhouette.

JEWELRY & ACCESSORIES: Metal chandelier earrings are cast in the shape of a cartoon-y alien or octopus for a touch of humor. Sunglasses wrap around the face, and many looks are styled with slim belts and leather amulets.

THE SHOW:  Thank you to the venue, Skylight at The Refinery, housed in the former Domino Sugar Factory. Wladimir Schall produced the music, which included “Surge” by Cid Rim; “Spacer Woman” by Charlie; “Apocalypso” by Chris & Cosey; and “Dance Yrself Clean” by LCD Soundsystem.
