CURATED ROOMS THAT BRING TO LIGHT THE LEGENDARY JEWELRY ICON
Three is a Magic Number
Trinity’s essence is profoundly intertwined with Cartier’s illustrious heritage. The Trinity interconnected bands, each meticulously crafted from yellow, rose, and white gold, represent the unity and magic of the number 3: the three brothers Louis, Pierre and Jacques, and the Maison’s three historic boutiques in Paris, London and New York. The interlinked bands of Trinity sit atop and below one another, creating an intricate yet harmonious arrangement where no single band is distinguishable as the top or bottom. This seamless unity symbolizes equality and balance, showcasing the perfection of the number three and its embodiment in the Trinity design.
The Creative Evolution
From its inception, Trinity broke with the traditions of the craft. The ring’s chromatic combination of three different golds, the fluidity of the rings, and the simplicity of the design and its symbolic strength. Throughout the years, the Trinity’s innovative journey explores the strength of its design—a creative force that is always instantly recognisable through its powerful codes that nuance each Trinity creation. This enduring allure and unmistakable elegance continue to captivate, showcasing Cartier’s legacy of refined creativity and continuously pushing the boundaries of creativity.
The Early Days of an Icon: Trinity and Jean Cocteau
The early acclaim of the Trinity ring is closely linked to the poet and artist Jean Cocteau. In the 1930s, Cocteau’s distinctive style included two Trinity rings stacked on his left pinky, a look that became his signature. Cocteau then introduced the Trinity to actor Jean Marais to Trinity with the poignant words: “The first band is you, the second is me, and the third is our love.” His profound influence on Trinity, marked by a romantic and poetic bond with the ring, elevated it to a timeless emblem of his artistic spirit and enduring legacy.
Trinity: The Icon of Icons
Since its debut in 1924, Trinity was destined for the spotlight as it captivated the elite circles of fashion, from Hollywood’s stars to café society elites, it has remained the choice of cultural icons until today. The narrative of Trinity continues to evolve, celebrating diversity of bonds and universality, as it remains a treasured adornment worn by cultural icons of every era, embodying timeless allure while honouring icons of past, present and future.
The Trinity Centenary Collection
The chromatic trilogy of the Cartier Trinity tells the story of the Maison’s signature interlocking rings in many facets of gold: white, yellow and rose. The Trinity Box celebrates the contemporary yet timeless icon that boldly reinvents itself driven by Cartier’s creative force in an exercise in style, coupled with a geometric approach. The Trinity collection is completed with rare reissues of a cult design: the XL version of the Trinity bracelet, and a new ring on the same bold, maximal scale, paying homage to the Maison’s rich history and savoir-faire as well as the timeless modernity of the Trinity.
Imagine Infinite Circles
This anniversary is also an opportunity for the Maison to reveal an original, collaborative project, Imagine Infinite Circles. Launched by Cartier, it gathers more than 100 works by creative figures from all over the world, from all disciplines and all backgrounds, weaving a circular story that represents Trinity. Drawing inspiration from the Renaissance tradition of “cabinet de curosités” (cabinet of curiosities), it is an ode to this universal icon which forms ties of love every day, paying tribute to Trinity as an inexhaustible inspiration.
Imagine Infinite Circles forms a collection which Cartier asked Jérôme Sans to curate. As the curator of this journey, the French creative figure has selected 30 artworks to be showcased at Singapore’s immersive experience that reveals singular microcosms that capture the many facets of Trinity: love itself and the diversity of bonds it creates, as well as unity and universality.
