One of the most awaited collection this year, the Valentino Fall-Winter 2019 menswear collection is a chapter out of a conversation between Pierpaolo Piccioli and Jun Takahashi of Undercover.
Inspired in equal part by Edgar Allen Poe and David Bowie’s “Space Oddity,” the collaboration blends the refined tailoring with street-conscious comfort and aesthetics. Piccioli’s love towards poetic elements met with Takahashi distinct spirit of rebellion. Embodying the new Valentino’s path to “be more inclusive and open to new opportunities,” as well as the brand’s new take to integrate sportswear – Piccioli told Vogue.
One of the most in-demand items from the collection are the VALENTINO GARAVANI UNDERCOVER sneakers. In which, VALENTINO’s Climbers and open sneakers are given the UNDERCOVER’s emblematic touch.
The Skull-Appliqué sneakers are offered up in a low top configuration in black, featuring the brand’s usual rock studs on the side, as well as an open-top design. The Garavani Climbers sneakers have been doused in a bold white with various green hits throughout. The two brand’s UFO Edgar Allen Poe illustration patch has been emblazoned on the tongue, with various branding details found throughout. This is met by the silhouettes chunky outsole.
A little summary about the collection: Futuristic and sci-fi graphics (robot heads, UFO patterns) that stand out over muted neutral tones. The Mix of utilitarian, oversized and relaxed suiting, expressing a new streetwear vision ensemble. And to quote the show’s notes back in January, this completely brought the street’s attitude in the Atelier.
