The Manifattura Berluti is located in Ferrara, at the heart of Emilia-Romagna region in Northern Italy. The building was founded in 1993 and was redesigned in 2015 to mark Maison’s 120th anniversary. This is the place where Berluti’s leather goods are crafted from prototyping to completion by a team of almost 300 experts.

All the experts work in open spaces within the wood and glass monolith building. Each of them is dedicated to a specific expertise from pattern-cutting to stitching, assembly or patina, bringing to life the designs created in Berluti studio.

The building’s façade was designed by Paris-based architecture studio Barthélémy Griño. It is punctuated by large picture windows and untreated red cedar that develops a patina through time. With that being said, the Manifattura stays true to Berluti’s very own tradition of craftsmanship, and it supplies over 60 stores worldwide.

The building itself, which is currently 8000-square metre, is nestled among mulberry trees. It evokes the rectangular shape of a shoebox. The interior space prioritises environmental neutrality and energy efficiency through natural light.

In addtion, the building uses solar panel-powered electricity and natural construction materials including glass, concrete and shoe tree-typical beech wood that pays homage to the Maison’s artisans and their expertise.
